Gwendolyn Tim Powell, BBA

Gwendolyn Powell, who is a hard-of-hearing lip reader, serves as Executive Director of Work-Able, Inc. This 501(c)(3) nonprofit workforce development organization serves youth and adults with disabilities, low-income individuals, veterans and other persons with significant barriers to economic self-sufficiency.

Ms. Powell earned an AA degree in mathematics from Gibbs Junior College in St. Petersburg, Florida and a BBA in finance from the University of South Florida in Tampa. She is a certified trainer for the American with Disabilities Act National Network. She widely shares her expertise with communities in the areas of marketing, communications, vocational rehabilitation, supported employment, career/ workforce development, transition planning, alcohol and drug prevention, and youth empowerment.

Ms. Powell is a member of several national organizations.
  • Advisory Council for the University of the Virgin Islands Center of Excellence for Developmental Disabilities 
  • Virgin Islands Advisory Panel for Special Education 
  • Inaugural co-chair of the Regional Health Equity Council (Region II) 
  • Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. 
Ms. Powell is a passionate human rights advocate and a firm believer of the following guiding principle: “Hiring persons with disabilities is not a charitable gesture; it’s a prudent business decision.”
