Dr Carla Rossotti Vázquez was born and raised in the island of Puerto Rico. She went to Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, Mexico where she obtained her Medical Degree and then completed her Internship in Manatí Medical Center. Currently works full time as a Primary Care Physician and is also the Medical Director of VarMed Management, which is the first health organization in Puerto Rico to have successfully established a Complex Health Management Program taking into consideration the pillars of population health and social determinants while providing an interdisciplinary care approach to mainly underserved patients on the island. During the aftermath of Hurricane María, she led an interdisciplinary team of health professionals in a series of medical brigades and was also part of the Elderly Task Force outreach initiative. Dr Rossotti is one of the few Physicians in Puerto Rico who are Licensed to Recommend Cannabis as an option of treatment to qualifying patients. She is the Chair for the local Chapter of Americans for Safe Access, Puerto Rico for Safe Access, which was awarded the Chapter of the Year Award 2017, and was recently re-elected as the Vice-President of MICaM, Miembros de la Industria de Cannabis Medicinal (Members of the Medical Cannabis Industry Organization) which is a non-profit organization providing support to all Members of the Medical Cannabis Industry. Dr Rossotti is a passionate advocate for health equity as she has experienced, first hand through her patients, the adverse effects and potential deadly complications such disparities have brought on to minority populations, especially the Latino and Hispanic Communities.
